As the founder chairman of the Thivyan Foundation Charitable Trust, Siliguri (Distt. Darjeeling, West Bengal, India) I have to state few words on the beginning of the organization. The difference between a man and an animal is that that the humans can differentiate between the right and wrong whereas the animals can’t. In this way, a human being understands that he has taken birth to do good to others. His life is meaningful only when it is of any use of others. A great Indian seer has rightly said --
पिवन्ति नद्यः स्वयमेव नाम्भः स्वयं न खादन्ति फलानि वृक्षाः ।
नादन्ति सस्यं खलु वारिवाहाः परोपकाराय सतां विभूतयः ।।
The great saint-poet Kabeer had also said the same thing in more simple language. He says that for doing good to others the trees give fruits, the rivers flow, the cows give milk and the saints live--
वृक्ष कबहु नहि फल भखै नदी न संचय नीर,
परमारथ के कारने साधु न धरा शरीर ।
The aim of the Thivyan Foundation Charitable Trust is to promote the welfare activities for the needy people on education, health, culture and above all the humanity, irrespective of caste, creed, sex, region etc.
In order to update our members and well-wishers about our forthcoming programs and activities we are shortly going to publish a quarterly bilingual magazine--Navasinchan. It will not only focus on the programs of the trust but would publish the invaluable writings of the eminent and new writers as well.
I hope that Lord Krishna will enlighten our path in achieving the aforesaid goal of the trust and some more friends would join our mission. I conclude my words in the words of famous Urdu lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri—
मैं अकेला ही चला था जानिबे मंजिल मगर,
लोग साथ आते गये और कारवाँ बनता गया।
